A couple of months back, Stephanie and I watched the documentary Helvetica. It really was much more interesting than a documentary about fonts has much right to be. People get really excited about these things. But then, once you start thinking about words, and writing, and the way writing looks… it is compelling. You can get lost in it. Go ahead. Go to Dafont.com. Look around. It is, as I said, compelling. You can take scraps of text and see how they look in different fonts. There is a bit of us, when not feeling too self-conscious, that is a middle school girl, seeing how your name looks with your crush’s last name…

Which brings us to the other thing, the more marriage-related thing. Stephanie and I have been talking about what to do about names. I am really thinking I would like us both to hyphenate. It just seems the best thing to do. Coming around full circle, here’s how my post-marriage name would look, in three of my favorite calligraphic fonts:

(If you’re keeping score at home, that’s Aquiline Two, Jefferson and JaneAusten).
